REGRET HAVING MY DOMAINS TRANSFERRED FROM GOOGLE TO SQUARESPACE

No receipt when credit card is automatically charged when domain auto-renews - While I receive an email stating that one of my domains "will auto-renew in 15 days" ... I do NOT receive an email notification/invoice/receipt when my credit card is actually charged (as Google Domains always did). That's a problem. Especially, when you have lots of domains to track.

No Support - When I try to contact support it says they are busy but email support is available 24x7. But when I try to create an email on the "Contact Customer Support" page, the page goes into "gathering resources" mode for a few seconds and then flops back to the Contact Customer Support page. That same thing happens when I click the "LOGIN" link in the upper right corner. I have tried with multiple browsers.

WRESTLING WITH THIS AND VERYING THE ABOVE HAS BEEN A HUGE WASTE OF MY TIME. AND NOW I NEED TO WASTE MORE TIME FINDING A COMPETENT DOMAIN REGISTRAR AND TRANSFERRING ALL OF MY DOMAINS. VERY AGGRAVATING.

“1000% - Two Google Domain accounts moved, should have never taken that move, should have gone ANYWHERE else! They are currently holding one of those accounts hostage. Can't access my one account with 4 domains in it, one that is complete down after a botched merge between the two respective Google Workspace accounts and their convoluted instructions on how to merge the two accounts don't work, you have to jump through hoops, and it still doesn't work. After finally getting connected to support, they ended up "escalating" my case, but in the I.T world where I come from, escalation also typically means higher priority. Not in their case. Now it's gone from hours for support to day 3 and NO RESPONSE from the escalation team. Do I need a lawyer? My business is down because of this!  Not at all happy..”

“Maybe you want to turn a productive afternoon into an aggravating hellhole of talking with useless Squarespace customer support staff.”

“I don't know what the .... Google was thinking selling out to this company! I think we should all ban together in a class action against Squarespace. Here's my last email to customer services.

I have not been able to access my account for several days!! This is hampering my business in a MASSIVE WAY!

This case was supposed to be ESCALATED to a priority team, really? That was 3 days ago. Squarespace's lack of support is going to result in an IMMEDIATE lawsuit for irreparable damages to my company if this issue is not resolved by Monday, 2 September, 2024 at noon.  The lack of response is appalling.

Consider this an official warning.”

“I also do not have access to the additional domains that were supposed to be transferred to Squarespace.

Does anyone know how to rectify this issue? I am still waiting for a actual response from Squarespace after 2 days.

I do believe a class action suit would be helpful. As this issue is causing a hinderance to many businesses.”

“First, I don't see an invoice for my domains anywhere in my account. Second, I'm not liking squarespace at all. The billing system is terrible. I found no way to make a payment for my domains, other than the auto renewal. Which I hope works. I have 9 days to pay. If I lose my domain, I'm blaming them for it. Looking in the forums was useless. I've sent a request for customer support, but doubt I will hear back from them.

Has anyone found a way to pay their bill?

Does Squarespace allow prepayments for multiple years?

Very frustrating. I should've transferred out of Google when I had the chance.”

What People Are Saying

“Attention Business Owners: Are You Facing the Same Issues with Squarespace?

As a business that relies heavily on our online presence, we are deeply concerned about the ongoing issues with Squarespace’s customer support. For weeks, we have been trying to resolve a critical SSL certification problem that has severely impacted our ability to advertise and conduct business online. Unfortunately, despite our repeated attempts to reach out via chat and email, we have received no response.

The chat service appears to have been down for weeks, and emails have gone unanswered. This lack of support has left us in a precarious situation, and it seems we are not alone. We suspect that other businesses may be facing similar challenges, and we believe it’s time to take action.

We are currently seeking our domain transfer code to move our domain to a more reliable provider—one that can at least respond to emails and provide the support we need to keep our business running smoothly. However, Squarespace’s continued silence has made this process frustrating and costly.

If your business domain was purchased through Google and is experiencing the same issues with Squarespace since the transfer in July 2024, we urge you to join us in exploring legal action. Together, we can hold them accountable for the negligence and lack of support that is harming our businesses.

Please reach out to us if you’ve been affected by Squarespace’s unresponsiveness. It’s time for us to stand together and demand the level of service we deserve.

Let’s make our voices heard and ensure that our businesses receive the support they need to thrive..”

"I just made a post about my domain too. My online shop has been down for two weeks, I had to redirect it to a different domain, but I can’t take back all the business cards that I gave out with our domain name. 😔.”

Tell HN: I think there are major issues with Google –> Squarespace domains

As I’m sure everyone is aware by now, Google domains was sold to SquareSpace domains and the migration has been under way for a few months.

I build sites for clients and have noticed that domains that were transferred to SquareSpace are having serious issues with DNS settings updating/propagating.

Multiple times this week (and for completely different accounts) I’ve updated DNS records in SquareSpace domains dashboard only for nothing to update nor propagate around the web. These domains all use SquareSpace’s nameservers.

Reaching out to support is a nightmare because their agents are simply trained to say “you need to wait 72 hours” (which, I get is technically the limit but every other registrar I’ve worked with propagates settings within minutes or hours), and after 72 hours has passed with no update, they’ve simply stopped replying to me. Which, I’m assuming they’re tracking down some system wide issues. Also they do not let you edit the TTL of records

All this to say, if you had domains on Google and simply let the migration go ahead - I’d recommend moving your domains off SquareSpace asap.

“On July 8, 2025, my Squarespace account was unexpectedly locked after I lost access to the Gmail address associated with it. As a paying customer using ********************** to run my business, I immediately contacted their support team to regain access. I clarified that this was not due to suspicious activity, but simply because I could no longer log in via my original email.Despite explaining the situation clearly, Squarespace repeatedly requested the same verification steps. I fully cooperated and submitted:A bank statement showing recent payments to Squarespace A copy of my valid passport SMS verification codes Emails sent from my own domain (linked to the locked Squarespace website)Screenshots demonstrating prior access A complete timeline of the issue and explanation Even after providing everything requested multiple times my account remained inaccessible. No clear reason was given. I was never offered a recovery path, transfer option, or escalation process. Instead, I was left without access to my website, content, or client files. This lockout directly harmed my operations, blocked access to paid features, and caused financial ******* this point, I am requesting BBBs assistance to mediate this case. I have done everything in my power to resolve the matter privately and professionally. Squarespaces handling of this case reflects a failure to deliver essential support and violates the trust placed in them by their paying customers.I am requesting either a full account reinstatement or a complete refund, including an explanation of the reason behind the lockout and their refusal to resolve it despite receiving full documentation..”
